How do I view streaming video with HIVE for Microsoft 365?

Once Hive Streaming is enabled for the target Microsoft 365 application, all of your company’s video content for that application will be HIVE-enabled going forward. No other configuration is necessary. The only exception to this rule are previously scheduled events on the Skype Meeting Broadcast and Teams applications.

During streaming video playback, the Hive Streaming service will be completely transparent to the end-user. They will watch the video content normally.

The behavior of the Hive Streaming service on each individual endpoint will vary based on your license type and the end-user's configuration:

Hive Full Distribution license

If your organization has purchased a Hive Full Distribution license and the HIVE Agent has been installed on the end-user's computer, the viewer will automatically benefit from HIVE's optimal distribution service. Viewers without the Hive Agent may still benefit from distribution (and reduce network traffic) if they are running a Hive WebRTC-supported browser.

Hive WebRTC license

If your organization has purchased a Hive WebRTC license, viewers with a supported browser will automatically join with other viewers running supported browsers to optimize performance and reduce traffic on the network.

Hive Insights Only license

Without an available distribution technology, viewers will immediately “fall back” to streaming the video from the original video source as a unicast stream. Too many unicast streams can cause congestion on the company network affecting other applications. However, playback statistics for these endpoints will still be captured in HIVE reports.
