How many viewers can join a HIVE-enabled Skype Meeting Broadcast, Teams or Stream live event?

Although Hive Streaming can scale to support events much larger, Microsoft has set an official limitation of 10,000 viewers for Teams and Stream Live Events and 10,000 viewers for Skype Meeting Broadcast events.  This limitation is based on calculated viewer join & drop-off rates. 

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Microsoft has announced the following Microsoft 365 Live Event Limit Increases**:  The official statement from Microsoft on this increase may be found here.

To help customers meet rapidly changing communication needs, Microsoft 365 live events will temporarily raise default limits until October 1, 2020 for live events hosted in Teams, Stream, and Yammer:

  • Attendee limit: events can support up to 20,000 attendees

  • Concurrent events:  50 events can be hosted simultaneously across a tenant

  • Event duration:  event length has been increased to 16 hours per broadcast

Additionally, Microsoft recently announced support for up to 100,000 event attendees partnership with the Live Events Assistance Program.
