Workplace Requirements

Although all Workplace plans include Live video streaming, HIVE for Workplace is only included in Enterprise Live - available to Workplace customers on an Enterprise planIf you are unsure as to which Workplace plan you have or which features are available to your organization, please contact your Workplace account team.

Info

Workplace has its own networking requirements, detailed here.

Understanding Hive Streaming Requirements

Hive Streaming's browser-based distribution technology (Hive WebRTC) is enabled by default in Workplace Enterprise Live.  However, customers may opt to upgrade to the installed HIVE Agent to enable more advanced use cases, such as support for non-WebRTC compliant browsers, HIVE Silent Testing and custom network configurations.

HIVE WebRTC Endpoint Requirements

In order to support Peer-to-Peer distribution of video content, HIVE WebRTC requires a web browser that supports WebRTC data channels.

Browsers that do not support WebRTC data channels may still view Enterprise Live events, but they will not benefit from Peer-to-Peer distribution.

HIVE WebRTC Networking Requirements

HIVE WebRTC typically works on enterprise networks without any additional configuration.  However, IT Admins should review the following list to insure no required services are blocked.

Customers may that opt to upgrade to the installed HIVE Agent to enable more advanced use cases, such as support for non-WebRTC compliant browsers, HIVE Silent Testing and custom network configurations, will need to abide by the additional requirements listed below.

HIVE Agent Endpoint Requirements

The HIVE Agent is offered for Windows, macOS and select Linux distributions (available upon request).

HIVE Agent Networking Requirements

The HIVE Agent must be able to receive communications from the local web browser and communicate other HIVE Agents across the internal corporate network:

  • The HIVE Client "listens" on a special local machine address (commonly referred to as the loopback adapter). Please ensure requests from installed web browsers to this local machine address (127.0.0.1) bypass any web proxy.
  • UDP communication must be permitted inside the corporate network. UDP communication is not needed outbound, beyond the corporate firewall.

The HIVE Agent uses the HIVE Desktop Helper process (HDH) to automatically connect to services on the Internet, including video content hosted on Workplace's CDN.  If the HDH is not permitted or unable to connect through the customer's Internet infrastructure, manual network configuration steps are offered.
